HOW TO PLAN THE PERFECT BABY SHOWER PARTY

Baby Shower Girl Cake

Beautifully crafted edible cake topper

Baby showers are a great way to celebrate pregnancy and the upcoming birth of a child. It is the time when you can shower the mum to be with gifts and of course play all those baby shower games.

Below is a checklist that contains everything you need to know to create the perfect baby shower, with links including printable invitations, games, decorations, gift ideas, food including beautifully decorated baby shower cakes.

Baby Shower Checklist

 4 Weeks Before:

Set the date of the shower, checking the availability of the mum to be.

Choose a theme for the baby shower.

Make a guest list.

Compile a list of gift ideas, checking with mum to be. If she needs some big ticket items you can give guests an option to put money towards them. There are also a lot of gift registries online and in-stores. Make sure if you are not using a gift registry that the guests let you know what they intend to give to avoid double ups. Alternatively if you don’t like the idea of asking for specific gifts you could make a list of items already purchased or obtained by the expectant mother again to avoid double ups.

Work out whether you will be serving food…if so will you need to cater a meal or just make nibbles available. Will you supply the food or do you want people to bring a plate to share? You could ask half to bring sweets and half savories.

Order cake and cake decorations.

Decide where you will hold the baby shower, often if the mum to be is close to her due date she will be most comfortable at home or at friends or families houses, that way if she gets exhausted she can lie down somewhere quiet.

Print and send invitations to guests, including gift lists, food requirements if asking them to bring a plate to share.

2 Weeks Before:

Confirm guest numbers and venue.

Purchase or make any decorations for the party.

5-7 Days Before:

Prepare any food that can be made in advance and freeze.

Ring expectant mother and confirm if she has any special requirements on the day.

Organise baby shower games and purchase prizes.

1 Day Before:

Purchase any perishable food and last minute items.

Make cake and decorate.

Day of Baby Shower:

Arrive to venue early and set up any tables and chairs, make sure the mum to be has an extra comfortable spot to sit and a spot to put her feet up.

Decorate venue in your chosen theme.

Place cake in a spot where people can see it and admire your work.

Organise food and serving utensils, cutlery & crockery.

Greet guests and help them to get settled. Introduce guest who do not know each other, name tags are great when there is a mixture of people who are not familiar. You can make them fun by asking the guest to send you a photo of themselves as a baby and incorporating it into their name tag. See Baby Shower themes below.

Once guests are settled, play some baby shower games.

If the parents of the mum to be are expecting their first grandchild make sure you don’t forget to make them feels special too.

When its time to open the gifts find mum to be a comfortable spot and make sure you have a pen handy, as she opens her gifts write the name of the gift inside the guests card to help her when she is writing thank you cards.

Make sure guests receive a piece of your wonderful cake before leaving the party.

If your venue is at a person’s house ensure they have help cleaning up after the party and make sure mum to be gets home safe.

Pat yourself on the back for throwing the best baby shower ever.
